PhD Student Eric Liu Embarks on a Scientific Exchange in Edinburgh

EpiCrossBorders is committed to fostering international collaborations and bridging communication between scientists and the broader community. One of our PhD students, Eric Liu, is currently experiencing this firsthand during his scientific exchange at the University of Edinburgh’s Institute of Genetics and Cancer.

As part of our mission to make internal discoveries accessible and beneficial to diverse audiences, we encourage our researchers to engage with different scientific environments. Edinburgh has proven to be an ideal setting for this, offering a dynamic and collaborative atmosphere that supports intellectual exchange and professional growth.

Reflecting on his time abroad, Eric shares his experience:

“Cherry blossom season is arriving in Edinburgh this April, marking the second month of my visit to the Institute of Genetics and Cancer at the University of Edinburgh. It has been a fantastic experience immersing myself in another scientific environment during my PhD. Here, they have an open-concept design of their lab and office, fostering scientific discussions and collaborations more easily. People here are also quite approachable and supportive—I have enjoyed this a lot and absolutely benefited from it. In the coming month, I will keep exploring more possibilities here and also enjoy my life under Edinburgh’s lovely sunshine!”

Eric’s experience highlights the importance of international scientific exchanges in broadening perspectives and strengthening research networks. We look forward to hearing more about his journey and the insights he will bring back to the EpiCrossBorders community.
