EpiCrossBorders: Fresh Perspectives Through International Collaboration

Spending time abroad isn’t just about research—it’s about gaining new ideas and experiences.

During the second year of her PhD, Veronica Finazzi enjoyed two and a half months at the Institute of Genetics and Cancer in Edinburgh, where vibrant discussions and diverse computational approaches gave her fresh perspectives on her work.
Collaborating closely with co-supervisor Catalina Vallejos and her team, Veronica advanced her project on transposable element analysis while exchanging ideas with peers from varied backgrounds. She also attended an EMBO workshop on transposable elements, combining theory with hands-on learning from leading experts.
Beyond the lab, Edinburgh’s lively atmosphere and stunning landscapes made the experience even more inspiring. Exchanges like this show how EpiCrossBorders fosters innovation, builds global networks, and equips young scientists to tackle complex challenges in epigenetics.
